Manor Cleaners owner Gino Marchionda and Magiclean Services Dry Cleaning owner Laura Long presented a donation to the It's Our Time Campaign on behalf of all Niagara dry cleaners.
Niagara dry cleaners and their customers have donated a generous $10,000 to the future Walker Family Cancer Centre, now under construction as part of the new Health-care Complex at Fourth Avenue and First Street, St. Catharines.
And there’s more money to come, says Manor Cleaners owner Gino Marchionda, who initiated a fundraising dry cleaning coupon book to raise money for the regional Cancer Centre after his wife and business partner Leona died of cancer last year.
The books – worth hundreds of dollars in dry cleaning and fabricare savings – were sold for $10 each this past year by Niagara dry cleaners, with all proceeds going to the Walker Family Cancer Centre. The fundraising drive, titled Niagara Dry Cleaners Against Cancer, concludes at the end of this year with the expiration of the coupons.
Our new Walker Family Cancer Centre will be a centre of excellence for cancer care – serving as a hub of a co-ordinated regional cancer treatment network for Niagara, attracting new medical specialists, technicians and other health-care professionals to our region. The centre will enable the delivery of comprehensive cancer treatment to Niagara patients including preventative, surgical, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The latter, radiation therapy, is a first for the Niagara Region allowing many local cancer patients to make their personal journeys with the illness right here at home.
Marchionda says Manor Cleaners hopes to raise another $25,000 or so by the end of the year through a separate fundraising initiative.
Warm thanks goes out to all Niagara dry cleaners and their customers for supporting our highly anticipated and urgently needed Walker Family Cancer Centre.
